A Few Of Our Favourite Things

Voyagers K9 Apparel

Rain Coat: Simple and so functional. They have a thin mesh lining to keep the cold off their back, a nice high neck and are super waterproof. Easy to put on which is a huge bonus when you have 4 dogs ๐Ÿ˜‰

Winter Jacket: My dogs love this jacket so much. It keeps them warm and dry in the cold or snow, has a high neck and is easy to layer with the Hurtta Extreme Warmer when it gets really chilly.

Find the rain coat here and the winter jacket here.

ChillyDogs

Alpine Blazer:
Great for the PNW in all seasons. Fleece lined inside to keep the chill off, with a nice waterproof shell. It has great belly coverage to keep as much dirt off of them as possible! If you spend a lot of time in the mountains, I suggest getting the Great White North as well.

Great White North:
I love this winter jacket just as much as the Voyagers (above). It has a bit more belly coverage and while it can be harder to put on at first (the straps need to be even so it does not shift), it really is a great jacket. I love that there is zero restriction of movement and that they last forever!

Ruffwear

SingleTrak Pack:
Phenomenal day pack for hiking. It comes with two bladders for water with enough room to carry a tick twister, benadryl, snacks and poop bags too! I don’t believe they make them anymore, so if you come across one – snatch it up!

Approach Pack:
A great all day or even overnight pack. I have one for Gemma as they don’t make a Palisades small enough. It is a great option, but note the packs cannot be removed from the harness.

Palisades Pack:
My favourite overnight or all day pack. It comes with two 1L bladders for water, the bags can cinch down and compress so things do not move around and the pack can detach from the harness which is great when you are taking breaks, or want to use the harness on its own.

Enrichment Toys

We love both the Toppl and Tux from WestPaw for stuffing. From raw meals, to raw goats milk mixed with berries… get creative! They are great for puppies who are learning to love their crate, a mid day snack or just because! If you want to try something a little different lick mats are another option but can be harder to clean.

For dry treats, the WestPaw Rumbl is great as well as the StarMark Treat Ball (Kyara’s favourite by FAR).

Snuffle mats are another favourite around here, and there are MANY options these days. The Buster ActivityMat is next level if you’re looking for something harder. It has a variety of attachments with different levels of difficulty.

Paw Protection

I find my dogs don’t need booties unless the snow is icy (therefore sharp!), quite cold, or I am walking in an area where salt has been spread.

Fun fact – dogs CAN get frostbite!

Non-stop dogwear has a great line of gear, and are one of my favourite bootie companies. Their long distance booties are great in snow, and the protector bootie is great for walking on sidewalks that have salt, for extra grip when walking on ice, and can also be brought along on summer hikes in the event you need paw protection.

Paw wax is also a great option, you can make it easily yourself (feel free to reach out for the recipe). I use this option often for Gemma.

Harnesses

My favourite harness for puppies is the Balance Harness from Blue-9. It is highly adjustable, does not restrict movement at all and sits far enough behind the elbows. It is actually one of the only harnesses professional Dr. Chris Zink recommends.

*Note: Like with any walking harness, it is not intended to miraculously make your puppy heel – so it should be used in conjunction when training loose leash walking ๐Ÿ˜Š

For those of you who are interested in nose/scent work or tracking, I use and love the Padded Y Harness from Hurtta.

If you are looking for a harness to have while hiking, I would suggest looking at Ruffwear. I love their Webmaster (which comes with the palisades pack) or their Flagline if your dog can wear something a little thicker between the chest.

Treats

I love to use single or whole food ingredient treats whenever possible. Getting a dehydrator, or using an oven, to make your own is a great cost effective option!

My favourite store-bought treats are:
GreenJuju Food or Bites
Yappetizers
Sojos
WOOF
1Bite2Bite
K9 Natural
Open Farm FD Raw
Great Jacks FD Treats

Noxgear LightHound

A must have for anyone who walks in the dark. These harnesses are rechargeable, easy to put on and adjust for when they’re wearing jackets and when they’re not. I also love that you can change the colours – super handy for multi-dog households.
